What health insurance do I need for a student visa in Spain?
For a study stay authorisation of more than 90 days you need private health insurance with complete healthcare, no co-payments, no waiting periods and repatriation included. Sanitas International Students meets all these requirements.
Does Sanitas International Students have co-payments or waiting periods?
Neither. You pay nothing extra for each consultation or service, and all cover is active from day one.
What exactly does it cover?
Primary care, all medical specialties, diagnostic tests, therapeutic treatments (rehabilitation, cancer treatments, respiratory therapies, speech therapy, lithotripsy and radiotherapy), hospitalisation and surgery, dental with more than 40 services, emergencies abroad, international second medical opinion and repatriation. All as set out in the policy terms and conditions.
Who can take it out?
International students aged 14 to 35 who come to study in Spain. You can stay covered until age 35.
What documents do I need?
Passport or residence card and your course enrolment.
How long does the insurance last?
It is taken out for stays of 3 months to 1 year and is renewable. Unlike other Sanitas plans, it does not have a fixed 12-month term.
Am I covered if I travel outside Spain?
Yes. It includes medical emergencies on trips abroad of up to 90 days, up to 12,000 € per year, and an international second medical opinion.
How long does it take to get the certificate for the consulate?
We give it to you in record time. As soon as your policy is ready, we contact you to finalise the details and issue your insurance certificate, valid for Extranjería and the consulate.
How much does the insurance cost?
The price depends on the age of each insured person and where you live. Leave us your details in the form and we will send you the exact price, with no obligation.
What languages do you speak?
English, Spanish, Russian and Ukrainian. If you speak another language, we handle everything in writing. Our office is open Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 19:00 and Fridays from 9:00 to 15:00, and we are on WhatsApp Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 19:00.
